Peninsula Issues

The sport DOME. come on people, this is a great idea in a very bad Economy. How is it that a area so heavily conservative that hasn't voted for a democrat president since I can remember can even think of such a large capitol expenditure at this time?????? Why don't we try to get city cooperation on things like FIRE and POLICE before we start establishing a service area for a inflatable raft (dome). Now, leave the borough Mayor alone ACT. You want accountability how can you get better accountability then not voting for somebody? If you want the most qualified people to run fine but it is our responsibility to get those people to run for office, if they don't want to run then we need to pay more for those positions. After all it would be cheaper then paying a Mayor and a Borough Manager$$$$$. Lets look at it like this, If you want a CEO of a fortune 500 Company say GE then you have to pay them like a CEO. But if you pay like the School district(slightly more) then your going to get teachers and blue collar people running. I don't run into to many high paid executives that say, Man I would love to Make less be Shunned by part of the community(you pick the part) and oh yeah every 2,3,4 years depending on office I have to face getting LAID OFF. Doesn't sound like much fun when you think of it like that!
On a good note, we finally have a soldotna cemetery site and soil samples look good so lets hope everybody will be happy with not having to drive somewhere else to get buried now!

Sarah Palin!

WOW!
I could probably say alot here but I will spare most of you. The bottom line is that she's a QUITTER! I am a life long Republican but I never really was a big fan of Mrs. Palin's (that's my disclaimer) that said alot of Alaskans voted for her and she couldn't stick it out. Sarah is not the only one to Blame here but ultimately this was a decision she didn't HAVE to make nor did anybody expect her to make. Lets enact laws so that it cost people to levy such ethics complaints against a politician, lets have an initial hearing to vet the complaint and if it makes it past that fine but lets not put our politicians in the poor house for the jackets they wear. now most people will say, yeah but a commission to hear these complaints will cost money too. You are absolutely right but how many of these commission meeting could we have before we reached the $2 million mark that Sarah threw out there in her speech? Lets not forget Hollis French (Ichabod crane) lets forward this guy part of the bill for supporting the mindset that these SILLY complaints are okay. Actually can I file a ethics complaint against Mr. Ichabod french for character assassination of our Governor HMMMMM, sounds good to me. Afterall I wont get a bill in the mail.

The NEW Landscape of Americas Auto Industry!

GM has been out of Bankruptcy for less then a week and Chrysler has Barley been out for a month but Already TIMBO geitner is Proclaiming the Recession is EASING, that hardly seems true in Soldotna, AK (my market). I read a study the other day that said Americans are less stressed now then at the beginning of the year. Really, maybe it is because Americans are flocking into the bankruptcy courts along with General Motors and Chrysler! The reality is that NEW cars still aren't selling and Used vehicle values are being driven somewhere north of Yellow Knife Canada. Dealers are having to pay RETAIL or close to for Clean used vehicles, the result is almost every customer having to come up with down payments to cover the discrepancy between the price paid and (not yet adjusted) book values. This is a long departure away from the biz in 2007 or even most of 2008 when customers were getting deals below retail values and often didn't have to mortgage the house again for a down payment. you may be asking yourself what all this means, well does anybody remember the housing bubble? as Used Values Stride upward towards there New counterparts there WILL be a mass justification by the consumer to buy new. after all the manufactures can offer huge incentives on financing not available in the used market and now lane doe is sitting there saying should I pay 450 a month for a used car or 490 for a new car. that would be the difference between 3,000.00 dollars and incentive rates probably 3% below whatever a credit union or bank could offer! NOW were stuck in a pattern of the Used car market going bust with slumping values and all those people who elected to buy NEW are now buried under a mountain of negative equity much like we saw in the middle 2000's. Is there a solution here that could stop all this, I am sure there is but I don't have it this is just a very educated opinion of what the future sales market will bring. Maybe Barack and TIMBO can help us out on that one too!
